The Shire of Owl’s Nest is a local chapter of The Society for Creative Anachronism. We reside in the Kingdom of Meridies. The members of our Shire are interested in researching and recreating the arts, skills, and sciences of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance eras.
Our official boundaries include the counties of Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Gordon, Paulding, and Pickens. We welcome newcomers and travelers from afar. All published gatherings are open to the public, and we love seeing new faces.
Members of our Shire are active in many Society related activities, including Heavy Weapons, Rapier, Youth Combat, and the Arts & Sciences. Arts & Sciences activities include: embroidery, weaving, illumination, calligraphy, period cooking, sewing, jewelry making, basket weaving, carpentry, metalwork, equestrian, coursing of hounds, and bardic and heraldic activities, just to name a few.
Come join us on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw, GA, for fighter practice, both heavy weapons and rapier (see our Calendar of Events for more details and changes). A Regional Fighter Practice is held every 2nd Tuesday at Blackburn Park on Ashford-Dunwoody Road in Atlanta, where combatants have the opportunity to practice with fighters from all over the region. Don’t fight? That’s fine! Come sit, visit, hang out, and work on an A&S project. No garb necessary, come in street clothes.
The Shire business meetings are held the 2nd Monday of every month, in the conference room at Whole Foods/Harry’s Farmer’s Market, 70 Powers Ferry Road SE, Marietta, GA 30067. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m., in the community room. Enter the store, turn left past the cash registers, and proceed to the community room. All meetings are open to all who would like to attend.
